The site that I explored was HomeworkStation. I thought this was a great tool to keep kids and parents informed on what is due and when. It is a constant headache for teachers to hear, I didn't know that was due or I forgot. It is also hard to explain to parents that you gave the assignment in class and told everyone to write it down. This tool allows instant documentation as to when an assignment was given and how much time was allowed. It is also a great way to keep students caught up when they have missed a lot of school for one reason or another.
Still, I feel that by doing this it may just create more work for the teacher and enables students by not holding them accountable. As a sixth grade teacher I feel that a big part of my job is to prepare them for middle school. In middle school, most of their teachers won't be this prepared and the kids won't be used to taking care of assignments on their own.

- I was born and raised in Syracuse, Nebraska. My family consisted of my parents and my two older brothers and an older sister. I loved my childhood. My family is still extremely close today, which is why I chose to move back to Syracuse two years ago. I graduated college with my teaching degree from Midland Lutheran College and was fortunate to get my first teaching job right away. I started my career teaching fifth and sixth grade for Mead Elementary School and had a wonderful experience. After two years there, I moved home to be closer to my family and to my boyfriend and to teach fifth and sixth grade Language Arts for Elmwood-Murdock. I also am the assistant high school track coach. I married my wonderful husband in June of 2007 and we bought a house in Syracuse. In September, I found out I was pregnant and I had my son on May 21st. The last day of school! We are so excited about this new experience and feel very fortunate to get so lucky so fast, even though it is a little scary to think about a baby and finishing my masters.

I agree, we have sixth graders in the middle school and I think we enable them too much too. Whenever something looks really neat on the internet like "Homework Station" and I think I should use it, I back up and think to myself, "Is this going to work and if I start it, I will have to do it for the entire year." I also wonder about the kids who do not have the internet at home and if it would be fair to them to do something like this?
